This lovely brass coloured inkwell makes a great decorative piece for an office or desk. The piece is made from copper sheets that have been plated with a brass/gold plate. The hinged lid opens to reveal a small glass liner for ink, and the upturned lip at the front of the tray provides a space for resting a pen. The bottom has a pedestal base. There are some faults with the piece that are outlined below, but these faults do not detract too much from the display value of the piece.
CONDITION: While all the components are present and functional there is considerable distressing to the piece: — Wear to the plating where the inkwell meets the base. — water stains to the surface. — the edges of the rolled copper sheeting of the base shows some tarnish underneath. — the interior of the well, although concealed by the glass liner, has rust inside. — the edges of the glass inkwell have some tiny chips.
