These 2 Egyptian tiles from the 1960s are uniquely designed, featuring figures commonly found in Cairo's markets. The beautiful pastel colours and earthy charcoal brown background are hand painted and glazed. These one-of-a-kind pieces, signed and dated on the back, make for memorable and thoughtful gifts.
These Egyptian tiles are displayed in wooden frames measuring 5" x 5", with a thickness of almost 1.5 inches, and are able to stand securely on a flat surface. The frames, as well as the paper and cardboard backings, show slight wear and tear including dents, dings, and a small rip in the paper on one of the tiles. Additionally, the original hanger on this same tile with the backing paper tear has been replaced with a durable metal wire loop.
From exploring the back of the one with the slightly torn backing, I would estimate the tiles to be 4 inches X 4 inches in size. The exposed surface between the frame is 3.625 inches X 3.625 inches.
The tiles themselves are in good condition. Although there are some irregularities in the colour —this is all part of their one of a kind charm.
