Oak Leaf Shaped Majolica Serving Platter, Griffin Smith & Hill Style, Antique Decorative Serving Dish, AGE RELATED FAULTS (SOLD)
This antique oak leaf shaped serving dish is such a nice example of the realistic depiction of natural objects in Majolica dishes. The dish features 3 acorns nestled at the base of the veiny leaf with a gracefully curved petiole as a handle. The plate has faults described below and shown in the photos.
The plate is approximately 12 inches by 8.5 inches and the rim is around 2 inches high.
CONDITION:
— General signs of age and under-glaze crazing.
— Small chips and lines around the outer edge of the dish.
— ONE CHIP on one of the underside of one tip of the leaf.
The dish is unsigned apart from the imprint of a square formed by 4 dots on the reverse. Although the piece does not bear the Etruscan Majolica mark, the details and the other markings are consistent with an older piece.
