Tuareg Tobacco Pipe with Leather Pouch
Tuareg Tobacco Pipe with Leather Pouch
This lovely hand coloured and hand stitched 6-inch leather pouch is used by the nomadic people of the Sahara. It contains 3 pouches in one for carrying, money, loose tobacco, and a tobacco pipe, and when not in service are usually carried tucked under the waist band.
The leather is decorated by little leather Pom-poms and hand drawn and hand embossed designs. The outermost flap has a small leather piece at the bottom that a thin strip of leather wraps around. Then the leather is twisted to tighten the hold. Please note, this fastener is small and quite fragile on this piece.
The pipe in the smallest pocket is made from metal and decorated with animal bone and wound copper and brass wire. Do notice there is a little crack on the bone at the mouthpiece.
The piece is in good condition with a little colour bleeding from the ink and just general handling. There is no odour in the pipe.
If used, to clean the pipe, use a pin or thin piece of wire to dislodge any debris and ash frequently.
